There is an amazing amount to talent on the stage, but musically it still doesn't often impress.
Lin-Manuel Miranda seems to have used Les Miserables as a template. Changing the music to rap works and allows for much more exposition but the melodies are pretty weak, so the use of musical themes to bring the audience quickly into a scene don't work as well as it does in Les Mis.
The story is the tale of an ambitious, vain, loudmouthed and unpleasant man. Hamilton does not seem likeable, so I don't care about him at all.
The single worst part is Lin-Manuel Miranda himself. He is OK as an actor but not a singer on par with the other voices on stage.
It's not all bad:
Hamiltons version of the innkeeper from Les Mis is King George played by Jonathan Groff (Kristoff from Frozen) and this is the only part where it truly matches Les Mis. It's both funny, has a good tune and is well executed.
Renée Elise Goldsberry deserves a mention. None of her numbers would be anything special without her. She has a presence and voice that is remarkable.
Phillipa Soo who plays the wife of Hamilotn gets to end the musical with the only number that had me actually involved - and that's all about Eliza Hamilton's achievements after her husbands demise.
